Hanna Kristin Hjardar and Therese Jægtvik  received awards for their China stories in the 2019 Photo of the Year annual contest in Norway. The award ceremony this year was virtual, of course.

Hanna and Therese were part of  the final year batch of the three year photo journalism programme at OsloMet last year. They did their field work in China last spring, as part of the cooperation with Mino Art Center, Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in Bangladesh and photo.circle in Nepal.

Hanna´s story is about the “Bare branches” – about Chinese men looking for a partner. Therese´s story is about the role of pets “Fat and sweet” in the Chinese middle class.

Former OsloMet journalism student (MA), Afshin Ismaeli, received one award alone for a photo series on ISIS prisoners, and shared two other awards in the contest Årets bilde 2019, as the contest is called in Norwegian.
